In a move designed to appeal to baby boomers and other younger travelers, Crystal Cruises told agents onboard its annual top producer trade gala on Crystal Serenity this week that it will offer a new overland adventure that includes a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The new program debuts in March 2007 and is available pre- and post-cruise in conjunction with two Crystal Serenity sailings beginning or ending in Cape Town, South Africa. Hiking an average of six to eight hours a day with overnight accommodations at the mountain's most comfortable huts, climbers traverse various eco-systems before reaching the 19,340 foot level of Uhuru Peak, the highest in Africa. The new overland tour requires what Crystal calls an "extreme commitment" in advance plans and physical training for guests and so the package must be booked four months in advance. Crystal will provide a pre-climb package that includes a suggested fitness- conditioning program.
