Package closes Stansted Airport Stansted Airport is closed because of a security alert after a suspect package was found.
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire reporter Emma McLean, who was on a flight from Edinburgh, said no one was being allowed in or out of the airport.
Police officers started cordoning off various parts of the airport and moving passengers on at 1910 BST.
This comes after armed police stepped up their presence following the failed car bombings in Glasgow and London.
Ms McLean said: "Police officers started cordoning off various parts of the airport.
"They started moving people from the front to the back of the airport. All the shops had to be closed.
"There must be a couple of hundred people here waiting to leave the airport.
"From what I understand flights are still departing from the airport but people can't get in and out of the airport.
"Police have just told us a package was found at the front of the airport."
Patrols at the Essex airport were stepped up after a burning car was driven into a terminal door at Glasgow on Sunday.
