Dallas Airport Equipment Outage Delays Flights DALLAS (CBS) ― Travelers faced major delays at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after an equipment malfunction in the east and west air traffic control towers, reports CBS station KTVT-TV in Dallas.
Radio communications in the towers began failing early Monday morning. The FAA issued an immediate ground stop for all arriving and departing air traffic.
Local news helicopters also reported an inability to communicate with the airport's control towers.
Communications were restored in the east tower about 20 minutes later, allowing some flights to begin taking off again. Equipment in the west tower is still out of operation at this time.
Officials at DFW Airport are monitoring the situation. In the meantime, departing passengers are seeing delays of at least an hour. Arriving flights are delayed about 90 minutes.
This all comes just as the busy holiday travel week gets underway, with crowds heading to the airport on Thanksgiving vacation.
Other area airports, including Dallas Love Field, have not been affected by this communications disruption.
