Biking in Europe Does this Forum have bicycle riders interested in European biking? The best scenery, villages/overnight accomodations, safe routes, and too much food/beer are ever present there. My favorite rides are in Austria (Danube), Czech Republic, and Germany. If anyone's interested I can trade info/stories and recommendations based on 15, or so, such private trips. As time goes by, our (wifey and me) daily mileage objectives have ebbed to 50 to 70 km/day (4 to 5 hours), leaving plenty of time for in-route or end of the day sight-seeing.
All of my trips have started with loading bikes on the plane in Seattle, or (lately) renting bikes in Europe at either gateway cities or train-accessible start points. The "best" time to ride is late August through September when the tourist pressure is down, all tourist-worthy areas are still open and the weather is generally benign.
Post if you're into this kind of active vacation--we're into our early 70's, now and can still enjoy "cranking it out".
