Default Luxury in a huge skyrise or a cozy cottage?

I love walking into a sleek, modern hotel with marble floors, plush sofas, and huge floral arrangement in the entry way. You know the kind they show in the movies when the heroine is going to be swept off her feet by the hero.

I also love being catered to in a small inn where a fire is going, freshly baked cookies are waiting, and the hostess knows your name because you're one of only 15 guests for the night.

Luxury doesn't have to be associated with size of the hotel. I was at a small hotel a few months ago, and it was probably one of the most wonderful stays I've had.

My favorite luxury are fresh flowers in the room, what's yours?

I like them both equally...A fancy highrise hotel overlooking the bright lights of the city with all the luxuries you can think of. When you in the city you want the high class luxury to soothe all the hustle and bustle of the city.

The cozy cottage resorts are quite romantic if you find the right one. It's a great way to spend time out of the city and treat your lady to some romance.

My favorite type of hotel would definitely be luxury. I went to a hotel that's more family oriented as opposed to luxurious, and I definitely prefer the luxurious one! There's nothing like feeling like a celebrity for a day!

One of the most luxurious places I've stayed at was a small 20 room hotel. A gourmet breakfast was included. Cookies, soft drinks, coffee and tea were available on a complimentary basis. A glass of wine was served in the evening. There was a fireplace in the rooms. The fourposter beds had fluffy pillows and down comforters. Most of the rooms opened to a private balcony or patio.

There was a creek running through the property and the host had placed chairs, lounges and swings in various places so you could listen to the water, read or just relax.

It was just heavenly.

Drew what luxurious touches do you think 'your lady' would appreciate the most?

In Johannesburg, there is a hotel on the side of a mountain that used to be condo complex. It is called the Westcliffe, and you can see elephants from your terrace, although they are in a zoo.

Many miles away is a resort called the Pearl Beach. Their overwater bungalows have glass topped coffee tables and lights underneath to show the tropical fish which gather there. It is very luxurious, and located on Bora Bora in French Polynesia.

I would recommend either one without hesitation.

So the bungalows sit over the water and you can see through the glass? Sounds heavenly. Bora Bora sounds like it could have been the 'special island' in South Pacific for the secret boar tooth ceremony.

I have some nice photos of the place. I will see what I can do about sharing some.

That would be fabulous.

The Ritz Carlton Laguna Nigel in SoCal is one of the most stunning hotels I've ever been in. It sits on top of cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean. When you enter you see three huge arched windows full of sky and water.

OK - I got a couple up in the South Pacific photo gallery. I am very pleased with how they come out when you click them. You can even see some cruise ships in the background.

The photos are gorgeous. You had some great shots.

I'm curious how deep is the water under the cottages? It doesn't look very deep but with such crystal clear water it's hard to tell.
