The legendary Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong to soon reopen The Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong is renowned and loved for its luxurious facilities and legendary service. The flagship hotel of the Mandarin Oriental Group first opened its doors in 1963, right in the heart of the swinging sixties where fashion, art and culture blended together during the exciting period.
The hotel has proven to be a significant landmark in Hong Kong over time. Photos from the official website allude to the celebrities and even royalty that have chosen the Mandarin Oriental as their place to stay. Black and white photos of HRH Princess Margaret’s visit in the 1970’s remind people of the elegance that the hotel has offered to their guests.
Located in Hong Kong’s Central district, the premium location features views overlooking Victoria Harbour and close proximity to high end international labels and shopping malls. The distinct golden fan featured on the hotel’s exterior can be seen prominently throughout Central, reminding people of the hotel’s fabulous guestrooms and facilities.
Industry guests recently attended a lunch in Sydney with Vanessa Williams, Director Sales & Marketing and Pamela Scott Sales & Marketing Representative who spoke about developments with the renovation programme aimed at restoring, refining and refurbishing the hotel.
The Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong closed its doors on December 28th last year, undergoing an extensive US$140 million renovation programme. During this time the hotel completely closed, with all staff members having to be relocated and transferred to other hotels within the Group or with sister companies at the Jardine Matheson Group in Hong Kong. Williams explained that that the staff relocation programme was important as the hotel prides itself on allowing guests to enjoy familiar faces when the hotel is due to reopen later this year.
Much loved restaurants such as Man Wah, the hotel’s namesake restaurant will also reopen, with the interior allowing guests to pay homage and remember the many banquets held during the hotel’s illustrious past. The Clipper Lounge will also return, where guests can enjoy high tea in a sitting-room overlooking Statue Square.
The reopening of restaurants and bars at the hotel emphasise the importance of eating and sharing which is a significant part of Chinese culture. The blend of traditional Chinese eateries alongside sushi bars and The Mandarin Bar & Grill ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy during their stay.
The Hong Kong icon is scheduled to reopen in early September and the hotel is currently taking reservations for bookings during this time. The completion of the renovations is truly a once in a lifetime event and aims at reaffirming the Mandarin Oriental’s legendary status. |
