Hawaii Hotels End June on High Note Hotels throughout Hawaii posted higher average room rates for the last week of June compared with the same week a year earlier, according to the latest weekly Hawaii Hotel Industry Snapshot issued by Hospitality Advisors. Occupancy statewide was 85.5 percent for the week, up six-tenths of a percent, but average room rate climbed by more than 10 percent to $194.77. Oahu outpaced the statewide occupancy average by logging average occupancy of 89 percent for the week, while Maui posted the state's highest room rate, an average $268.51, up 12.8 percent from the same time last year. Posting the highest rate of increase in room rate, however, were hotels on the Big Island, where average rates climbed 15.6 percent to $183.99. By comparison, the national average saw a greater rate of increase-3.1 percent-in occupancy to 72.3 percent, but actual occupancy, average room rate, and increase in room rate from the same week last year all lagged. National room rate was $96.42, up 7.2 percent from the same week last year. |
