Default Do you take family members with you on business trips?

When you are away on business, especially longhaul trips abroad, do you take the family too? Does the company allow you to take family with you?

My mom last year went with my dad on a 2 business trips to China. On the first one she paid her own airfare. On the second trip, my dad's company paid for the airfare for her to go with my dad!

We are allowed to take family as long as they pay their own airfare. We can also extend a stay, but pay the additional hotel nights.

For a while my company had a policy that we could spend 50% of our airfare savings by staying over a Saturday night (that was when it was required for the cheaper fares). So if I save $500 by staying over Saturday, I could use $250 for whatever I want including an additional airfare.

No i don't. I live my family members but business is business and i don't mess with that concept. I'm never away more than one week at the most and i realy don't see where i'd find time for them if i did take them along.

My wife travelled with me on business quite a bit. Course she had to do it in the summertime because she was a teacher. My customers were always pleased to see her and we developed many good relationships that last to this day because we were able to entertain the customer's wife at dinner after work or even at lunch. Very, very few other men did this so the customer's were always loyal to me even when I wasn't in their "neck of the woods". I felt it was an advantage and when practical I encouraged my employees to do the same thing.

How DO they get deer to cross the road only at those yellow road signs?

Default I don't think so.

No. During a company-sponsored trip to Morocco last year, I have to leave my two younger siblings at my aunt's home. My parents are also working abroad so it was really hard. I still manage to enjoy the trip, though.

I run my own business and I have taken my family with me on numerous occassions. I am able to write it off as a business expense so why not involve the family when I can. We can take in some of the attractions where ever we are and make it a quite enjoyable business trip.

Has all the extra time for security cut down on the enjoyment of taking your spouse or family members with you on your trips?

I don't know if you want me to start talking about the security because it's part of this whole "War on Terror" propaganda campaign to scare the people to submit their liberty. More people die from peanuts each year but we don't have a "War on Peanuts".

To answer your question though, it is just part of the system now to go through their security but it's only on the way to our destination and on the way back that it impedes on us.
