The upgrades are aimed at premium customers sometimes used to flying business class.
American Airlines is among those planning to launch some new services this summer.
"American's next-generation business class features new lie-flat seats, a personal in-flight entertainment system, and state-of-the-art cabin lighting," the airline said in a statement. Ergonomically designed overhead bins would be another amenity.
United Airlines has announced an investment of $165 million to upgrade international, long-haul first and business class seats.
