Default RV across route 66

I would love to plan an RV trip from Chicago to LA on route 66. Can anybody tell me about their route 66 trips? What type of budget should I have if I want to take about 1 1/2- 2 weeks driving, stopping at campgrounds, and visting parks and other sites along the way? Any good ideas about where to stop each night? What should I be sure to stop and see along the way? Any good books that I should buy to get a complete picture of route 66?
