Default EasyCruise River Cruises cease

EasyCruise has been forced to cancel sailings by its easyCruiseTwo riverboat operating between Amsterdam and Brussels.

No sailings will operate after Friday (August 17), the company confirmed on its website.

The decision has come as a surprise to prospective passengers who have complained that they stand to lose hundreds of pounds for flights booked to coincide with trips on the vessel.

One said: "They [easyCruise] seem not to want to take any responsibility when things go wrong but want all the praise when launching the products.

"Many of us have lost hundreds of pounds due to the fact that we have booked flights to coincide with out cruise. My party of four stand to lose over £500 on non-refundable flights for starters."

The company said in a statement that EAsyCruiseTwo "is owned and operated on a franchise basis by a separate company called Boonstra Riverline. easyCruise was informed today (August 14) by Boonstra Riverline that due to their financial situation, they will not be able to operate cruises beyond 17 August 2007.

"This is earlier than the originally advised date of 28 September.

"Please be assured that this situation does not affect the cruises operated by easyCruise onboard easyCruiseOne in Greece where it is business as usual."

EasyCruiseTwo carried 112 passengers in 52 cabins and 18 crew, with sailings from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, Antwerp and Brussels. The itinerary was designed to allow passengers to take a weekend, short break or a week, with morning sailings to each city.

The company is to offer full refunds and a free cruise on its other ship sailing in the Mediterranean.

An easyCruise statement said: "easyCruise is in contact with all passengers that had been booked to travel with easyCruiseTwo and is offering a full refund for their cruise and travel arrangements as well as a complimentary cruise on easyCruiseOne to be taken by the end of 2008.
