Question Celebrity Mercury passengers fall ill again

I read in the news today that 115 of the 2,034 passengers aboard Celebrity's Mercury ship, along with 3 of the 847 have fallen ill with suspected Norovirus. This is the 2nd time in 4 months that the Mercury has suffered viral issues... 300 passengers aboard the Mercury in March during a Mexican Riviera cruise became ill.

The Mercury has also been in the news in May when the captain was fired from his position and arrested in the port of Seattle for being intoxicated on the job.

Personally I had always viewed Celebrity cruise lines as a more "sophisticated" line, providing a better-than-average cruise experience, but perhaps I have been misled?

Has anyone here cruise Celebrity before? Have you been on the Mercury? I'm curious to see what your opinion is.

Default Celebrity Mercury A okay by me!

My friend and I were on the Mercury when the incident with the Drunken Captain occured. We were actually out to sea when he was removed from the ship, I was watching from my balcony, and took pictures, as the 'Pilot Boat' came along side! We were approximately 45 mins to an 1 1/2 hrs out. It was not reported this way in any reports that I saw or heard. Anyway, the Mercury is a beautiful ship, has a wonderful crew, EXCELLENT cuisine. This was our FIRST cruise. We couldn't have been more impressed! There were hand sanitizers at every turn, and people were using them. You had to upon embarking and disembarking this beautiful ship. We had decided that we would ALWAYS sail on Mercury because our experience was so fantastic. BUT, we have a 2 week cruise to Hawaii scheduled for Jan 08 on HAL's Zaandam, for a change and to see differnces. We have 2 S class Verandah Suites. Anyone sailed on her? Have any comments? Have you used teh private Navigator Lounge? Would love to hear any and all feedback.
